Who are Big Daddy's Hero's? The people that I admire are those who are faced with extraordinary circumstances in life yet somehow are able to reach out to others and do amazing things that inspire and make us believe that not only can we overcome tough times and tough situations but in spite of them still have a little left to give our fellow human beings.

    I was having one of those woe is me wah wah! I want to sit on my pitty potty and cry days and walked into Barnes and Noble Bookstore to look for something to cheer me up. I have always been a big fan of motivational books and recordings and thought that maybe I could find something to make me feel better. Little did I know that what I was looking for that day was not something in print or audio, but something Living! And full of Life!  As I perused the shelves I heard a whisper in my ear or maybe it was in my soul. It said " Turn around". So I did. And way on the other side of the store I saw the back of a lady with a bald head just like mine. I felt drawn to her. So I walked up and introduced myself. It's not everyday that you meet a absolutely beautiful and radiant bald headed woman and I felt a little awkward. I asked if I could have my picture taken with her and she said that it was kind of weird but why not? So I asked one of the store employees to take our picture with my phone and after taking the picture the lady commented that we made a great couple. We kind of giggled and went on with our conversation. I asked if she was Breast Cancer Survivor and her grin went away. She said that her name was Laurie and that she was not a survivor yet. In fact she was actually in the fight of her life at that very moment. She was going through Chemo at the time and was tired of feeling sick all the time. With every ounce of energy that she had, she had gotten her kids off to school and her husband off to work that morning. She went into the bathroom and looked in the mirror and looked at the little bit of fuzz on her head that was oddly many different colors. Tired of wearing scarves all the time to cover her balding head, she had had enough. So she shaved her head completely bald. When she had gotten to the bookstore that day, she had already given her family and her personal hygiene all that she had left to give. Yet when confronted by a big bald headed country boy that day with innocent fascination and admiration she reached down in her soul and pulled out a smile and a warm loving hug and instantly became my hero. After corresponding by email I was given the honor of being aloud to read her blog where she wrote about her daily struggles in dealing with Cancer. I learned that this lady was truly a warrior. Her Faith, Her Husband, Her Family and Friends were all little pieces that put together an amazing Creature of God that carries the torch to light the way for all of us to walk a path of gratitude. Laurie has beaten Cancer and is now living a happy healthy life with her family. Along with Laurie's positive attitude and Amazing Husband that makes all of us Men look good because of how he stood by her side and showed amazing support through the entire ordeal, Laurie got love and support from a group of Ladies like herself who all had one thing in common, Their fight for their life against Breast Cancer.   One thing is for certain. Laurie ( I will leave out her last name for her privacy) is Truly a Big Daddy Hero and quite appropriately The first Big Daddy Hero for our company.

   Most people would underestimate the strength and abilities of a little boy who has never been able to run and play in the yard, never played a game of catch with his Dad or even stubbed his toe or scraped his knee doing tricks on a skateboard. So how in the world do you think a kid with Cerebral Palsy could build something like this?

   The story is quite interesting really. Somehow this beautiful amazing child of God that cant even give his Mom a hug after a long day at work or sneak a cookie from the cookie jar before dinner, got a bunch of Bikers and their friends at Damon & Co. in Gloucester Virginia to get together and throw several large parties, cookouts, yard sales, Turkey Shoots, Poker Runs, Golf Tournaments and even a good ole redneck Mudbog (we call them Mud-slings down in Carolina). He even raffled off a custom Bike from Rocker Originals and a 4 wheeler. And people think that the President is a good fundraiser. I heard The president called and offered Jarrett a job running his re-election campaign fundraisers.

  So when you see my little buddy Jarrett sitting back in his chair smiling, it isn't because he has gas or even figured out how to sneak that cookie before dinner. Its because he is so smooth and lovable that he got 100's of people to do his bidding and build a handicapped accessible playground where kids with all abilities can go and play and interact with each other without the limitations that a lot of other playgrounds have. Now if I can just get Jarrett to come over to my house and work on a new swimming pool and outdoor Kitchen with a built in smoker I would be set.

  Even without the swimming pool, outdoor kitchen and smoker, Jarrett my friend, you are truly a Big Daddy's Hero!
